Market Research

Shower products are one of the least recycled plastic products in the house hold. Many people delegate these bottles to the trash bin because of the common misconception that if there is any remaining residue inside, it can’t be recycled.

Recycled Waste

In the past a large amount of recyclables, roughly one third have been exported overseas (mostly to China) for processing. China has now banned the importation of for recyclables due to the abundance, and price of processing. This means that there is a large amount of recycled material that still ends up in landfills. This is why it is important to create a product that can be reused/repurposed.

Goal

  • Create a product that minimizes ecological impact

  • Product has to be reusable

  • Eliminate accessive material waste

  • Needs to be cost effective to incentivize reoccurring sales

Initial Sketches

I began to work on a concept that uses an exchangeable cartridge with a concentrate. This would reduce the amount of recycled material, and the user would reuse the bottle.

Refilling Process

This breakdown shows the step by step process of reusing the main body of the bottle, and replacing the empty cartridge.
